At the heart of Redbridge Museum is a unique collection of over 7000 objects, oral history and film. Once a week we will be selecting one object from Redbridge Museum’s collection to share with you online.
Every year the 17th March marks the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick (c. AD-385-461).
This date celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish, and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland.
With this in mind our object this week is an Irish dance dress worn by Kathleen Maguire in 1973. Kathleen opened the Irish Dance Academy in Seven Kings in 1973.
She became one of the most successful Irish dancers of her time, winning the Great British Championship (9 times), the All Ireland Championship (1972-1973) and the World Championship (1971-1973).
Visit Redbridge Museum to learn more about Kathleen’s dancing success, listen to her own story and perhaps even dance a jig!
