The Soldier

He sits in the doorway

He fought for his country

Has cardboard for cover

But hasn’t a door key

He was a bit shell shocked

He lost his best mate

He’s aged twenty three

And he’s riddled with hate

They gave him a discharge

He’s lonely and cold

And this is a story

That needs to be told!
Andrew Diamond

Part of a suite of poems by Andrew Diamond in aid of Remembrance Day 2013. Andrew said he hopes his poems will ‘make people look for a better, peaceful and more caring world’.
